Description
While often called a Tulip Poplar, it is in fact not a member of the Poplar family. Native to Michigan and eastern North America, the Tulip Tree is one of the tallest and most beautiful hardwoods. It has large showy flowers and leaves. It is a favorite nesting tree for birds and humming birds attend its blossoms. Leaves are four lobed and resemble the shape of a tulip blossom. They are waxy and smooth and turn bright gold in autumn. At maturity, the Tulip Tree reaches a height of 80' - 120'. It prefers well-drained, loose-textured soils.
