Please note, Gladwin Conservation District is not affiliated with egg counting and spraying resulting from the recently passed spongy moth millage for Gladwin County.

However, we do continue to educate the community on this invasive forest pest.

GLADWIN COUNTY SPONGY (GYPSY) MOTHS

Gladwin County previously had a Spongy Moth Suppression Program that began in 1998 and was funded as a millage. The program had its own director but by 2014, it became too expensive with the fund beginning to deplete, so after meeting with the Gladwin County Board of Commissioners on March 17th of 2015, the conservation district took over the spongy moth program and handling soil erosion permits. The agreement included the conservation district receiving an annual stipend to administer this program. However, by the fall of 2019, there was not a high enough fund balance to do county sprays and hire spongy moth counters, so the district's agreement with the county officially ended
